I literally just got done watching this wonderful movie starring Ben Stiller as "Walter Mitty." This was a comic, adventurous, and out right feel good film. If you're a person who values the true definition of life and sees through the canvas of society then this is definitely the movie for you.
The film follows Walter Mitty who works at Life magazine and is a negative analyst (Not sure if that's the right technical term), but more or less he is the guy who takes the negatives sent from photographers and gets them made up for the magazine. Walter is a dreamer, he wants adventure and excitement, and why wouldn't he, he looks at these amazing photos everyday. He daydreams a good bit and to be honest it threw me off for a second the first time it happened in the movie but no big deal you get used to it.
"Life is about courage and going into the unknown." |
The main conflict in the story happens when a well known photographer sends Walter negatives and a note claiming that number 25 was his best photo ever. The problem is that the negative is no where to be found so in a desperate attempt to keep his job Walter follows the adventurous photographer all around the world. Traveling to places from Greenland, the Himalayas, Iceland and doing crazy things he never would have dreamed of doing in pursuit of this man.
I will not give more away about this film but i will say it is definitely a must see. It has the right mix of comedy and adventure that someone like me enjoys. Because I am a person that desperately wishes to travel and see the world this movie struck a huge cord with me as Walter went from his hum drum life to living a fantasy. This movie was a great tool in trying to keep the magic in life alive. Often times we get caught up in the "system" or the "matrix" and forget what life is really about. This film forces the viewer to see that there is a whole world out there just waiting for us to see and to not give up hope.
Verdict: 9 (solid)
"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life."-Life magazine motto
